Dawson, who was named “New Owner of the Year” in 2022, began racing his first thoroughbred in approximately 2019. He claimed Rich Strike in a $30,000 maiden claiming race at Churchill Downs in September 2021.

RED TR-Racing also has a stable of thoroughbred horses in training. Rich Strike will soon be under the watchful eye of Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

“I have always followed horse racing. After recovering from a condition that prevented me from walking normally and without support, I realized that life is short, and the time to pursue the dream of owning a few racehorses was now.”

In addition to RED TR-Racing, Dawson also founded RedSunset Entertainment along with country musician Colton James. Dawson and James co-wrote the song “I Miss America” which was released earlier this year on James’ last album, America.

RedSunset Entertainment was formed to produce and record songs, outdoor television shows, radio programming, and more.

Dawson has worked in the oil and gas business since 1979. He presently operates RedSky Land, an oil and gas land services company, even though being semi-retired from the business.
